Spinks House by Greene and Greene

The Spinks house was built in 1908-09 and is an example of a California Bungalow designed by the architectural firm Greene and Greene. The design of the house was influenced by America’s Arts and Crafts movement which focused mainly on the use of natural materials and attention to detail. The inside wood used to build the interiors are made of redwood and Port Orford Cedar. The house sits upon 1.5 acres along a deep wooded canyon. The grounds were designed by Green and Greene to be free of formal hardscape elements. Several other landscape projects took place in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s to include terraces and other outdoor activities and areas. Out of all the houses I looked at by Greene and Greene this one is my favourite. The house itself looks simple but inside is very detailed and designed well. I also enjoy the large grounds that it sits on with a lot of privacy from the woods that surround it.
