Parque de Bombas, Ponce Puerto Rico

Parque de Bombas, Ponce, Puerto Rico

In my recent trip to Puerto Rico, I came across El Parque de Bombas located in Ponce, Puerto Rico. El Parque de las Bombas was a historic fire station and are one of Puerto Rico’s most notable buildings. It was originally built in 1882 as a pavilion for an exhibition, but it became Puerto Rico’s first-ever fire station. The building is two stories with a tower at each corner. When speaking in terms of structure, it is a wooden frame with a roof of zinc sheets. The most iconic and admirable part of this building is the bold red and black. It instantly draws your attention to it. It was a great place to visit and learn about Puerto Rico.

Bizzell Library (4)

To be honest, I don’t have the greatest memories here. When I think of the Bizzell Library also referred to as “The Biz” I think about all the constant hours of studying I have had to do in there late at night. A lot of procrastination has led me to be very anxious and stressed in this building. I do however like the gothic style of the building. I also like the Great Reading Room within the Biz. It is dead quiet in there and I am probably most productive in that room. The place is very resourceful for students as well and we as students are lucky to have such a building. Just personally I don’t have the best memories or experiences there due to my procrastination!

El morro – San Juan, Puerto Rico

El Morro, San Juan Puerto Rico

I went to Puerto Rico recently and encountered a few great places that left me wanting to go back next year. This is “El Morro” located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. El Morro construction began in 1953 and took more than 200 years to complete. The full name is “El Castillo de San Felipo del Morro” but it’s well known for “El Morro”. While visiting the My experience was great in the morro, the view was great. I saw that it still had some of the cannons that faced the oceans. Overall, it was a great experience!

The leaning grain elevator (Adams, OK/Panhandle)- I have family that grew up in Adams Oklahoma and to be honest there isnt much to talk about or see in the panhandle from my personal experince but in Adams Oklahoma you can find this local attraction. It is a grain elevator that was built in 1926 and was used until around 1983 and so it was not in use for many years and overtime the mill began to sway and lean due to the wind, its quiet remarkable how it was still standing until just recently in 2018 they found that although this was somewhat of a tourist attraction. It was a major liability for if it was to ever fall and so they decide to demolish it. To me this mill was very intriguing cause the way it leaned and swayed in the wind was just mind boggling and in person it was just a crazy site to see for sure, You always wanted to be the one there to see if you were there when it came falling down bad sadly it was never given that chance.

Tulsa CityPlex Towers (3)

The Tulsa CityPlex Towers have always fascinated me.  I live only a few miles away from them. Every time I drive home from Norman and pull off the highway into Tulsa, the CityPlex Towers are the first thing I see. These towers remind me of home. You can see these towers from my high school as well, so the towers are constantly in my view. These towers are also a mystery to me. I have no idea what they are used for. I got my blood drawn there one time on the first floor, which surprised me because this didn’t seem like a place where you would do that. These towers are significantly taller than anything around it, therefore you when I think of South Tulsa, I think of this building as its landmark.

The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium- lets be honnest there is no place any of us would rather be on a Saturday.  The stadium also known as Owen field was first finished constructed by Layton and Hicks and was completed in 1923 but has been continually renovated ever since. To me the stadium brings lots of joy throughout half the year as football season goes on. The atmosphere is unreal and always something I wanted to be apart of and was a big part in why I am here at the University of Oklahoma I wont lie.

Saint Francis Hospital (2)

This is by far my favorite hospital ever. Everyone calls Saint Francis the “Pink Hospital”. I find this building ironic because I was actually born in another hospital called “Saint Johns”. With that being said I still like this hospital more because of how unique its color is. I also have a personal connection to it because I had heart surgery here. Obviously I have felt all kinds of emotions in this building ranging from stress to relief. The surgery went well and I had an overall great experience at this hospital.

Reunion Tower- Being from Texas and driving through Dallas one thing that is easily recognizable is the Reunion Tower, it was built in 1978 and was built by Welton Becket. The tower is very tall and unique to the Dallas area. I had the chance once to go eat dinner in the ball of Reunion Tower which was an incredible experience as the restraunt roates in 360 degrees slowly so you canget  a complete view of the Dallas skyline at night, it was remarkable and I would highly recommend doing it one day.

Chesapeake Energy Arena (1)

I saw my first Thunder game in the Chesapeake Energy Arena. I have never been to a professional sports game before, and the Arena seemed huge to me. It was quite the experience to be apart of such a fun atmosphere like that! I got to see Russell Westbrook in person for the first time at Chesapeake. I will always remember my first Thunder game at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Nothing but good vibes with this building!

The American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas is probably one of the most special buildings to me. It was the site of all of my sporting experiences. Whether it was watching the hockey team the Dallas Stars or the basketball team the Dallas Mavericks, my and my family would enjoy every second in the AAC. Even if my team loses I still walk out of the building with memories and an experience I won’t forget. Even if the AAC isn’t the most pleasant-looking building, I still call it home to all my sporting events.
