Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist

Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist

While visiting recently visiting Puerto Rico in my vacations, I was able to capture this beautiful glance at the Catedral at  Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. I would admit, from the outside the cathedral is very simple and wasn’t expecting the amazing interior. This cathedral was originally built in 1521, although this cathedral was struck by a hurricane in 1540, it was reshaped and reconstructed to the original. It actually contains the body(well remainings) of Ponce de Leon(kinda creepy). This cathedral is very popular among religious people in the city of San Juan. I really enjoyed the details of the ceilings of this cathedral. Although I haven’t been to really fancy and big cathedrals like I have seen in class, this really gave me a glimpse of the experience.

Corporate Place

Though the architecture of the buildings are not that impressive, it is the memories that i have gained from this place that make it memorable. This was the place where i mostly spent most of my time as a teenager whether chilling with friends or going on a few dates. Aptly named the corporate place, it is a sort of outside mall with many attractions. A lovely place to always remember. Whenever i go to this place, i get an inviting feeling that makes me enjoy spending time there.

Tarrant County Community College Trinity River Campus – Fort WorthThis building was my first introduction to true modern Architecture. It was built while I was in High School and as soon as it was finished became a frequent destination for my photography. It was designed by Bing Thom a Canadian Architect with buildings in Canada, Hong Kong and the U.S.. Bing Thom created a truly breathtaking venue for the Fort Worth’s Community College that provides its students with a sense of wonderment while they study. The building encourages creative thought to anyone who might walk through it or attend the school. I’ve taken many friends from out of town to this building simply to check it out.

Beitbridge Border

A mostly negative experience with this building. I mostly encountered this building when i was travelling with my family to and from Zimbabwe. This was mostly during the 2008 financial meltdown which left Zim economy in recession which led to the mass migration of the Zimbabwean citizen away from the country.

This meant there usually long queues that would  take  7 to 8 hours to clear. I largely disliked this place and still do. The amount of time it took just to cross border control was very time consuming and arduous. This led to some resorting to illegal means to cross the border.

Palace of Versailles – Paris, France
It is difficult to really describe the spectacle that is the Palace of Versailles. It is the most extravagant and over the top building I will ever visit in my life. First you walk through a massive Golden gate to gain access to the palace. From there you go from one beautiful room to the next. Gold inlays, massive murals, marble floors, mesmerizing halls and then to top it all off you see the garden. The Garden could be its own separate attraction, its mind blowing. I would love to go back one day to relive the wonder I felt upon first seeing this fabulous place. Every person should visit Versailles if they have the chance, it truly is a sight to behold.

Musee  de  l’Armee  (Army  Museum)  Paris,  FranceThe French Army Museum is a wonderful museum packed with historical artifacts dating from the entirety of France’s history. I wish I had been able to spend more than a few hours there, however not everyone in my family is as interested as I am in military history. The Building itself is massive, comprising of seven main departments, showcasing different collections. The building is very serious, possessing a lack of stylistic flourishes that many other French buildings have in abundance.

The Modern Art Museum – Fort Worth, TX
The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth
has affected me greatly. I grew up in Fort Worth and have visited this museum countless times, whether for the permanent exhibits or the feature exhibitions. I have seen the works of Takashi Murakami, Kehinde Wiley and others here. This museum has brought me so much exposure to art, its value to my life cannot be quantified. In addition, the building itself is a work of art. Tadao Ando is the architect behind the building, his work features a simplistic, concrete style.

Great Zimbabwe

I visited the Great Zimbabwe site when i was younger with my family. It was one of the first times i had interacted with any historical site from my home country. Encountering this site brought feelings of nostalgia to some regard though i had never been there. The design of the whole place was very impressive, particularly the layout of the place. I also enjoyed learning that this layout was intentional for different uses. I look back to this experience and feel some sense of awe at the historical site

Bizzell Memorial Library

Bizzell Memorial Library

This is one of my favorite places ever! For some reason, most of the time during my days, I end up here. I have so many memories studying at the library from freshman year to my junior year. This place has helped me in my academic life so much! My commonplace is the Great Reading Room, where I’m really productive and focused on my studies. This library has a gothic style. It also reminds me of the Harry Potter buildings. It takes me back to the Harry Potter dining room. This place is one of the greatest places in OU!
