Lambda Chi Alpha at the University of Oklahoma

904 College Ave., Norman, OK

The Lambda Chi house here at the University of Oklahoma has great meaning to me, as I am a Lambda Chi. The first meaning this house has to me is a connection to thousands of students, Lambda Chi’s, that have lived in this house since its erection in 1930. In addition to this, I have been taught many lessons about brotherhood. Each time I walk upon this house it brings back memories of the 2 years I lived there, the lessons I learned, and more. In addition to the memories I ponder, I wonder about the future of my experiences with this house and what will come.

Bizzell Memorial Library

The Bizzell Memorial Library located on OU’s campus is one of the most beautiful building I’ve ever seen. The outside has so much detail and artwork carved in the building. The inside an experience of its own. Plenty of late nights and hours I’ve spent studying here, and it will never get old.

Barclays Center

Barclays Center located in Brooklyn, New York is host to many different events. I visited New York over a spring break and attended a Brooklyn Nets game. The Arena has a very sleek and unique layout, as you walk in the doors you’re actually walking in at the top of the arena as the court is somewhat under ground.  A very cool and unique experience even just the once.

Cotton Bowl

The Cotton Bowl has provided two electric weekends for me since 2017. The Cotton Bowl has provided me with some of the best college football in the past few years. The feeling of opening kickoff in that stadium is something I can not even describe. I am beyond excited to get back there this coming weekend and get to witness a good football team take care of a bad one. Thankfully this year our seats do not require binoculars so I can enjoy the atmosphere in all of its glory.

Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

The Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium is home to the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Growing up in Norman this stadium has been home to many of my Saturday’s. The experience of thousands of people getting together to watch the Sooners play is special. Not to mention the architecture of the stadium is beautiful both before and after the remodel of the south side of the stadium.

Oklahoma City National Memorial

This Memorial dedicated to the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah building on April 19th, 1995. I was not yet alive when the bombing occurred,  but even today in Oklahoma this tragedy makes Oklahoma strong and a community like no other. The layout of the memorial is something that speaks of the remembrance of that day, with the times on the arches and the chairs in the yard. Truly a special place to go to.

Lambda Chi Alpha House OU- Davis Lambert

The Lambda Chi Alpha house is a very special place to me. Located at 904 College Ave in Norman, Oklahoma, this house serves as a home to 65 lambdas every year. Built in 1934, this house is one of the oldest houses on campus. It is very special to me as I was given the opportunity to live there during my entire sophomore year. Although maybe not the nicest of places, this house stands strong given all that it has to endure from fraternity kids year in year out. It is in the shape of in “L” on the corner of the block. The house only has one stair case that is right at the entrance of the front doorway.  It goes from the basement all the way up to the third floor. There are 24 rooms of different sizes. The first and second floor have the exact same floor plan. When I go back to that house I think of the year I had living in it with my 60 pledge brothers. It is an experience that I will never get to experience again, nor would I ever want to.  Its structure is so simple and thats what makes it so easy to live in. The main floor consists of a kitchen where we eat, a living room, and a formal room for meetings. The basement is used for Lambdas to study and is a nice get away from everything that goes on above ground. The house has fire escapes on the sides of the house that are used just as much, if not more, than the single stair case inside of the house. That house is a very special place for every Lambda that has gone through the University of Oklahoma.

Bizzell Library

The Biz is a tricky one to describe. It’s almost like a love/hate relationship. Because on one hand, it’s a constant reminder of studying, school, and late nights. But on the other hand, I am very grateful and prideful of the time that I put in every time I step through those doors. The biz is a very comfortable and quiet place for me to get some work done. I have been lucky enough to find my own solid study and routine once I go there to study. So all in all the Biz is a positive memory and one of my favorite buildings on campus.

Physical Science Building

The physical science building has to be one of the only flaws in the campus architecture. I would use the same word to describe the design and my time spent there; Disappointing. The Physical science building handed me the first failed test of my college career freshman year. Sadly, from that point forward, the trend continued. This is why I am very glad that I do not have to spend any more time in that building for the remainder of my college career.

The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

I will never forget the first time I watched a football game here.  I was eight years old and I had never experienced so many people being at one place at one time.  Even today it blows my mind with how fun these games can be to watch. With the closed bowl and the seats being fairly on top of each other, the place can get very loud.  Being in a stadium of 80,000+, all rooting for a common goal, is always a bewildering experience.
