Romeo & Juliet Windmill – Frank Lloyd Wright

The Romeo and Juliet Windmill in Spring Green, Wisconsin was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at request of his aunts. They needed a way to pump water to their school, down the hill from the windmill. It is a very unique structure for a windmill and has an oversight balcony where you can look at the hillside. His aunts requested that it be a similar design to that of the schoolhouse which is where the shingles come into play. A very unique exterior with wooden shingles that match that of the roof of the school. The original siding was removed in 1938 and the tower was replaced in 1992.

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church – Frank Lloyd Wright

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1956 and completed in 1961 after his death. It was one of his last works and I believe to be one of his most unique compared to his other projects. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Although the architecture of the building itself is not traditional Greek Orthodox style, there are many colors, symbols and designs that retain these associations and traditions of the religion.

Gaylord Texan

I love going to the Gaylord resort in Grapevine to simply just walk around and enjoy the amazing building.  My mom and I do not get invited to our family holiday celebrations so we go here for thanksgiving brunch and Christmas dinner. I look forward to going all year long for the holidays and I really enjoy the beautiful architecture. I always love to look up at the glass roof and see the lone star, representative of Texas, the lone star state.

Pops Route 66

Pops has been a significant part of my life here in Oklahoma. The first time I went was with my boyfriend and he took me there because I was having a bad day. Now I just go when I have a lot going on and want to escape out of Norman. I’ll sit in my car and watch the lights at night or go during the day and sit outside and enjoy the pretty views from the benches. The building is particularly unique with the slanted facade and shelves with the different kinds of soda. I love going there and enjoying the beauty of Oklahoma.

Southlake Town Square (Fountain & City Hall)

Southlake Town Square was a very significant part of my childhood. My mother worked here and owned a commercial real estate firm and was her company had the contract for this shopping center. The site was cleared in 1997 and it broke ground in 1998. My mother was touring the site and almost gave birth to me while touring with the main investor and press. The bricks around the fountains have names on them and my mom got one for me. I grew up roaming the square and spent a lot of time sitting around this fountain. I remember going to city hall meetings with my mom and having to stay late at her office with her.

Price College

Price College has been an important part of my college career. I still remember the moment I received my degree candidacy and how excited I was. In this building I found my love for accounting and I realized how much I really appreciated the amazing guidance of the professors I have had thus far in my college career. Every time I walk over to Price from my house I still look at it the way I did the night I knew I would receive my degree candidacy. I feel lucky and humbled to be able to be a part of such an amazing program at OU.
